Why does a Contractor Need to Be Licensed and Insured

License

Represents Experience and Training in the Field

Required Education about all Areas of Constructions

Allows consumers the ability to see the current information for company including required insurance, bond, and history of any complaints

Without a License, there is no why to know that the person you hire has any knowledge in the field and may cause you more harm then good.

Bond

A surety bond provides a financial security for the homeowner

Bonds can only be accessed in the event that the contractor is ordered by the CCB to pay damages as the result of a CCB final order, and the contractor fails
to pay the order within 30 days.

Without a bond, a contractor would not be required to pay if ordered to.

General Liability

General Liability insurance is about protecting the homeowner not the contractor

General liability insurance covers :

property damage and bodily injury losses
caused by the contractor that occur as a result of the contractor’s work.

Liability insurance will not normally pay the cost of removing, repairing or replacing bad work by the contractor. That’s what the surety bond is for.
